Electron-impact ionization of atomic hydrogen at 2 eV above threshold
The convergent close-coupling method is applied to the calculation of fully differential cross sections for ionization of atomic hydrogen by 15.6 eV electrons. We find that even at this low energy the method is able to yield predictive results with small uncertainty. As a consequence, we suspect that the experimental normalization at this energy is approximately a factor of two too high. PACS n...
متن کاملElectron-impact ionization of atomic hydrogen from near threshold to high energies
Abstract. Application of the convergent close-coupling (CCC) method to electronimpact ionization of the ground state of atomic hydrogen is considered at incident energies of 15.6, 17.6, 20, 25, 27.2, 30, 54.4, 150 and 250 eV. Total through to fully differential cross sections are presented. Following the analysis of Stelbovics [submitted to Phys. Rev. Lett. (http://xxx.lanl.gov/abs/physics/9905...
متن کاملElectron-impact double ionization of helium at high energies
Electron-impact double-ionization cross sections for the helium atom are calculated by direct solution of a nine-dimensional Schrödinger equation using a time-dependent close-coupling method. Previous calculations are extended to higher incident electron energies using a simple factor-of-2 reduction in the mesh spacing for the three-dimensional radial lattice. The recent calculations, computati...
متن کاملCalibration of distorted wave Born approximation for electron impact excitation of Ne and Ar at incident energies below 100 eV
Abstract We calibrate the distorted wave Born approximation (DWBA) for electron impact excitation processes empirically. Differential cross sections (DCSs) for the excitation of the 2p53s, 2p53p, 2p54s and 2p54p configurations of Ne and the 3p54s and 3p54p configurations of Ar by electron impact are calculated using DWBA for incident energies between 20 and 100 eV. The calculated results are co...
متن کاملElectron impact ionization of sodium Rydberg atoms below 2 eV.
We have observed electron impact ionization of highly excited sodium Rydberg atoms in ns and nd states, n=35-51, below E=2 eV electron kinetic energy with energy resolution 0.25 eV. Measured absolute cross sections near 0 eV range from sigma(35d) approximately 7 x 10(-10) to sigma(50d) approximately 4 x 10(-9) cm(2). The energy dependence is consistent with that of widely used binary encounter ...
